Non-genetic Factorsaffecting Weaning Performance of Angus Cattle in N.s.w

چکیده
Birth date, weaning weight and date, sex of calf, year of birth, age of dam and management group were recorded for each calf. Birth weights were recorded in only one herd and standard values of 27.2 kg and 29.5 kg were used for heifer and bull calves respectively in other herds. For the purpose of the analyses age of dam was restricted to five groups, two-, three-, four-, five to eight-, and over eight-year old.

Genetic effects for reproductive traits in beef cattle and predicted performance.
Reproductive data were collected on 4,595 cow exposures and subsequent calvings over four generations in a rotational crossbreeding study involving Angus, Brahman, Charolais and Hereford breeds. Direct and maternal additive (Ig and Mg) and nonadditive (Ih and Mh) genetic effects were estimated for calving rate, calf survival, weaning rate, calving assistance and calf birth date. Genetic effects...
متن کاملFinishing precocity visual score and genetic associations with growth traits in Angus beef cattle.
Finishing precocity visual score selection was adopted to estimate the time from birth to reach slaughter age. This study estimated (co)variance components and genetic correlations for the finishing precocity score at weaning (WP) and yearling (YP) stages by using daily weight gain (BWG = from birth to weaning; WYG = from weaning to yearling) and speed of weight gain (BWR = from birth to weanin...
متن کاملRunning head : Maternal Variances for Growth of Beef Cattle Variance Components due to Direct and Maternal Effects for Growth Traits of Australian Beef Cattle
Variance components for birth, weaning, yearling and final weight in Australian Hereford, Angus and Zebu Cross cattle were estimated by Restricted Maximum Likelihood. Six different animal models were fitted for each trait and breed, ranging from a simple model with animals as the only random effect to the most comprehensive model allowing for both genetic and environmental maternal effects and ...
متن کاملSelection for increased weaning or yearling weight in Hereford cattle. II. Direct and correlated responses.
Selection was applied from 1964 to 1978 for increased weaning weight (WWL) or yearling weight (YWL) in two Hereford lines. An Angus line was maintained as an unselected control line (CL). Each line was maintained with 50 cows and four sires each year (two sires selected each year and used for 2 yr). Primary traits measured in the lines were birth weight (BW), preweaning daily gain (WDG), weanin...
متن کاملAn evaluation of bias in estimated breeding values for weaning weight in Angus beef cattle field records. I. Estimates of within herd genetic trend.
Genetic trends for weaning weight were evaluated in 15 purebred herds in the United States participating in the Angus Herd Improvement. Records production testing program. Regression techniques were used for separate estimates of sire and dam contributions that were summed to estimate total herd trend. Sire contributions, calculated as the pooled within sire regression of weaning weight ratio o...
